about

Hark back to the days of trashcore, early naughties laptop music!

So once upon a time I went by the handle Blackletter and put out an album called 'Junk Extensions' on the Sydney label Vibragun scope it here: vibragun-label.bandcamp.com/album/junk-extensions ) as well a few little cd-r things, before spiralling into an artistic identity crisis for a few years then emerging as Source Invisible in 2009.

This was one of those cd-r thingies.

These tracks were mashed out over late 2004 to early 2005 while I was working on a bunch of stuff for my live show at the time. Myalbum 'Junk Extensions' had been out for a few months at this stage and was being held up from getting distributed in Europe because Robbie Williams had dropped a Christmas Album and the distributor wasn't moving a single other record. Dunno how many got moved but their was literally only a couple of reviews for it which was nice. A sad, and actually true story. Thanks Robbie.

Anyhoo, I had these little left over tracks from those live show writing sessions, so burned up a bunch of copies on 3" cd-r's with my trusty old Dell laptop (RIP you little trooper) and handed them out to people at gigs thoughout 2005/2006. If you see this and happen to have one floating around, could you please send me a pic for my archive please?

These were all super fast little things done with sounds created with Reason 2.5 and Soundforge and then pretty much jammed out in Audiomulch or Ableton Live 3 (before it could do midi or even reverse samples - can you imagine it?! Life was sometimes tediously hard in the ye olde days).

Anyway, I still like these tracks for their cute, super raw simplicity. I was still learning to produce and was pretty much a snot nosed electro-punk-sound-art kid who didn't give a flying fuck about it sounding good or anything, so don't judge me too hard on it's shortcomings. And in the spirit of the original cd-r release it's still free or you can swing me a couple of bucks if you'd like.
